Semi-private: surf with one friend
A semi-private lesson is for two students. It works well when you want to share the experience with one friend or family member while keeping the group small enough for more individual feedback.
The lesson and board rental cost $135 per person for two hours: $120 for the lesson plus $15 for the board.

A small-group lesson is for up to three students. It is the most social option and the lowest listed lesson price per person.

What your Waikiki lesson covers
Meet Hella at Moku Surf on Koa Avenue. Each student chooses a board suited to their height and weight, then the group walks about one block together to Waikiki Beach.
The lesson begins with pop-up practice on the sand. Hella covers surf etiquette and water safety before moving into the water for coaching and simple assists into the first waves.

Before you contact Hella
Semi-private and small-group lessons are for ages 12 and up; children aged 5 to 11 take private lessons. Every surfer must be able to swim at least 25 yards without help and be comfortable in water over their head. Cancel or reschedule for free with 24 hours' notice; later cancellations, no-shows and dropping a student within 24 hours are not refunded, and if Hella cancels for unsafe surf you choose a free reschedule or a full refund (full policy). Shared lesson questions
What are the age and swimming rules?
Shared lessons are for ages 12 and up; children aged 5 to 11 take private lessons. Every surfer must be able to swim at least 25 yards without help and be comfortable in water over their head. For children under 13, a parent or guardian stays on the beach. Full requirements.
What if I need to cancel or the surf is unsafe?
Cancel or reschedule for free with at least 24 hours' notice. Later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded, but Hella will move a late-cancelled lesson once if she has an open time in the next 30 days. If Hella cancels for unsafe surf or weather, you choose a free reschedule or a full refund; light rain does not stop a lesson. Full cancellation policy.
Can one person book the semi-private price?
No. Semi-private is the shared format for two students. One student can choose the private lesson.
Can four people join a small group?
No. Hella's small-group lesson has a maximum of three students.
Are boards included?
Yes, in the lesson-plus-board prices shown here: $135 per person semi-private and $104 per person small group. Each includes $15 per person for board rental.
